Stop Asian Hate

#StopAsianHate

We stand together with a unified voice against the anti-Asian sentiment we have all been experiencing in our communities. As a group, we stand behind a message, a National campaign, first of its kind, which signifies that the attacks we are seeing and experiencing are not ok.

“On March 21, 2021 when eight people were shot in Atlanta, most of them Asian women, I knew that I had to do something to address the dramatic rise in Asian Hate laid bare by these racially motivated killings.

With the help of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, within a week I had arranged a meeting of Asian Canadian leaders within the theatre sector and within an hour, that extraordinary group of leaders had committed to working together to start a national movement. The movement launched on May 20th 2021, less than two months later. With participation of over 100 Asian performing artists and administrators at launch, the number is growing and the call to action continues, starting with a call out to all Asian Canadians working in the performing arts sector to join the initiative and stand side by side against Asian hate and in support of each other.

Stop Asian Hate is not a movement of any one individual or company; it is our hope that each Canadian organization and individual that joins this effort will find ways to use their own voice within their own community to add to the chorus and seize this moment to affect lasting and progressive change.”
