Carmen Aguirre

Carmen is a theatre artist and author, and a core artist of Vancouver’s Electric Company Theatre. She has written and co-written over twenty-five plays, including The Trigger, The Refugee Hotel, and Blue Box. Her newest play, Anywhere But Here, just received its world premiere at The Vancouver Playhouse this past February, produced by Electric Company Theatre. She is working on an adaptation of Euripides’ Medea for Vancouver’s Rumble Theatre, and an adaptation of Moliere’s The Learned Ladies for Factory Theatre. She looks forward to acting in the Canadian premiere of Chilean playwright Guillermo Calderon’s B for Vancouver’s Rumble Theatre this coming May. Carmen is the author of the #1 national bestseller Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter (winner of CBC Canada Reads in 2012), and its bestselling sequel, Mexican Hooker #1 and My Other Roles Since the Revolution. She is the star of the independent feature Bella Ciao!, for which she was nominated for a 2019 Leo Award for outstanding lead actor.
